Speech Recognition Troubleshooting

Updated over 4 months ago

Common Issues with Speech Recognition

  • Gosta recognizes the microphone correctly, but the volume check bar does not move.

  • Gosta displays: “Possible errors detected in speech recognition. Please review the notes very carefully.”

  • Gosta fails to record a large part of the conversation.

  • Gosta invents large portions of the conversation from scratch.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check which microphone Gosta is using

This information can be found in the window that opens when you click New Visit (or New Dictation) (see image, number 1). Try saying a few words— the volume bar should move (image number 2). When the system detects a loud enough signal, a green checkmark should appear to confirm that the volume level is sufficient for use (image number 3).

Wrong Microphone Selected

  • If the microphone name looks unfamiliar, try switching the active microphone from your browser settings and refresh the page.

  • If the correct microphone still isn’t selected, change the default microphone from your computer’s system settings and refresh the page.

  • If the issue persists, disconnect all other microphones from your computer and refresh the page again.

  • If the correct microphone name is displayed, try speaking a few words— the bar should move and the icon should turn green.

Tip: If you’re using a Jabra headset or another external microphone, make sure the device is connected to your computer and also selected in the computer’s audio settings. Separate instructions for connecting a microphone to a Windows computer can be found here.

Correct Microphone Selected, but the Volume Bar Doesn’t Move

Try the following steps:

  1. Make sure the microphone is not muted at the system level (for example, unmute it in Teams: instructions here).

  2. Some microphones have a physical mute button—check that it’s not turned on.

  3. Make a test call in Teams to confirm the microphone works.

    • If the call works normally, try Gosta again following the instructions below.

  4. Restart your computer.

  5. Refresh the Gosta Aide interface and check if the volume bar moves.

If the bar moves: we recommend making a test dictation using the dictation feature.

  • If dictation works correctly, you can continue using Gosta as usual.

If the bar does not move or the test dictation fails:

  • Re-read the instructions and check if there’s a step you haven’t tried yet.

Still Not Working?

If none of these steps solve your speech recognition issues, please contact Gosta Labs via the chat or email: [email protected].
