9.9.2026 service outage
On Wednesday 9.9.2026 at approximately 13:45 (10:44 UTC), the TLS certificate securing gosta.ai expired. From that moment, browsers and integrations connecting to Gosta began rejecting the connection with a certificate warning, and the service was effectively unavailable to all users unless they manually allowed the browser exception.
The issue was detected at 13:55 and work on a fix began immediately. A temporary certificate was deployed, restoring normal access to the service, and a notice was shown at the top of the Gosta application to inform users. A permanent certificate was issued the same afternoon and the incident was closed at 15:12.
Technical explanation
Gosta uses a wildcard certificate (*.gosta.ai) to secure all connections to the service. Renewal of this certificate has so far been partly a manual process, and due to human mistake, the renewal was not completed before the expiry date.
An expired certificate causes connections to be refused rather than exposed, so no traffic was transmitted insecurely. There is no indication of unauthorised access at any point.
Recordings and notes already stored in Gosta were unaffected, and any work still open in the browser remained safe on the user's device. Data that was in transit during the outage, such as audio being streamed to the service at the moment of expiry, may not have reached Gosta. We have no clear indication of cases such as this, but as Gosta does not store the streamed audio, any such recording cannot be recovered afterwards. If a note from that period is missing or incomplete, we recommend checking it and completing it manually. Support is happy to help with any questions about the outage.
How we will do better
Certificate renewal is being moved to a fully automated process so that a certificate can no longer expire due to a missed manual step. The work is already underway and is being tracked as a priority item.
The Gosta team apologises for the outage on the afternoon of 9.9.2026, and we are doing everything we can to make sure it does not happen again.
